Before You Get A Taste Of 'Eye Candy,' Take A Look At Our Favorite TV Super Sleuths

MTV's upcoming drama will feature an amateur crime-solver named Lindy, but she's not the first detective to hit the small screen.

What would you do if you exchanged a few sweet nothings with a sexy suitor on Tinder, only to find that your newfound cyber crush was a potential serial killer?

MTV's newest scripted series, "Eye Candy," centers around this precise spine-tingling scenario, except the subject is a modern-day Nancy Drew named Lindy. Played by triple-threat Victoria Justice, Lindy uses her tech-savvy wit and band of undercover hackers to try to take down the seemingly deadly online stalker while unleashing her "Law & Order"-like justice on the streets of New York.

As we gear up for the series' premiere next month (save the date — January 12 at 10/9c), let's look back at some of television's biggest, baddest detectives-by-default:

Stiles and Lydia from "Teen Wolf"

This dynamic duo may very well be two of our favorite detectives-in-normie-clothing (OK, we're totally biased). Sidekick-turned-sleuth Stiles has teamed up with Lydia to keep Scott and Co. safe from berserkers, the oni, werejaguars and any other baddies that might befall Beacon Hills. So far, they've done good.

Jessica Fletcher from "Murder, She Wrote"

Murder, She Wrote: South by Southwest

The Emmy-winning television series ran from 1984 to 1996 and starred Angela Lansbury as the always-wise Jessica Fletcher, a retired English teacher-turned-mystery writer and amateur detective. It was tough not to root for the Cabot Cove resident as she attempted to uncover the facts around the mysterious deaths in her picturesque town.

Nev and Max from "Catfish"

Perhaps Lindy can take a cue or two from these tech experts, who specialize in helping long-distance loves connect beyond the LCD screen -- and revealing the true identity of online fakes. Season after season, Nev and Max have caught the Internet's most devious catfish -- hook, line and sinker.

Shaggy and the gang from "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!"

Hanna-Barbera Productions

Fanart4

The popular 1970s Saturday-morning cartoon series featured a ghost-hunting band of teenagers and their Scooby Snack-addicted dog who traveled around in a van called "The Mystery Machine."

Rust and Marty from "True Detective"

HBO

HBO's drama stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two Louisiana State Police detectives who are forced to open old wounds when they revisit a 17-year-old homicide case.

Veronica Mars

Kristen Bell played the show's title character, a high school student-slash-private investigator who made it her life's mission to avenge the death of her best friend while uncovering the secrets of the fictional Neptune, CA's rich and famous population. And who could forget Kristin Cavallari's memorable guest appearance...

Sherlock and Watson from "Sherlock"

BBC One

Sherlock: A Study In Pink

In this crime-centric British drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock Holmes solves various mysteries in London with the help of his partner. Elementary, my dear Watson!
