Grimes Has An Appetite For Evil On Her New 'Suicide Squad' Song

Embrace your inner villain with ‘Medieval Warfare’

Another day, another new Suicide Squad song. Following the release of Kehlani’s “Gangsta” on Monday and Dan Auerbach, Action Bronson, and Mark Ronson’s “Standing in the Rain” on Tuesday, the soundtrack’s rollout continues with a menacing new track from Grimes.

The aptly titled “Medieval Warfare” reeks of impending danger, as Grimes’s syrupy vocals seep through a backdrop of distorted guitars. “Are you bad? / Are you ugly? / Can you kill a man with your hands?” she sneers on the chorus, inviting her “baby” to come out, let loose, and share her appetite for wickedness.

Following the song’s premiere on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, Grimes said she was “openly weeping” when she got the call to work on the film. “I was very, very, very stoked,” she told Lowe, adding that she watched the trailer 20 to 30 times before making “Medieval Warfare.” Given that she recently admitted Suicide Squad antiheroine Harley Quinn was a major inspiration for her song “Kill v. Maim,” her passion for the #Skwad is surely legit.

The Suicide Squad soundtrack drops August 5, the same day the movie hits theaters. Along with previously released tracks from Twenty One Pilots and Skrillex and Rick Ross, the star-studded compilation also includes new songs from Eminem, Kevin Gates, and more.
