One Direction Reveal Their Next Single

The guys are bringing things down to earth for their next Made In The A.M. single.

Good news, Directioners: We’re now “one step closer to”… a new One Direction single.

Following the invincibility-inspiring “Drag Me Down” and the infectious “Perfect,” the third single from 1D’s new album, Made In The A.M., is “Infinity.”

Liam Payne announced the news on Thursday (Nov. 26) with a simple but excited tweet.

“Infinity” was originally released as a promotional single back in September, and at the time, it basically made a lot of Directioners break down into tears. Now that we’ve heard Made In The A.M. in its entirety, though, “Infinity” is hardly the album’s most sob-worthy track — that honor, fans have decided, goes to the Harry Styles-penned “If I Could Fly.”

In any case, “Infinity” is a beautiful, Coldplay-esque ballad that builds and builds until it reaches a soaring, chill-inducing crescendo about two-thirds of the way in.

In a video series where the guys explain their feelings about each of the Made In The A.M. songs, Styles called “Infinity” “one of the best that we have,” a sentiment Louis Tomlinson echoed by dubbing it an “epic banger.”

“That was another one that we had played on the first day of writing, and for me, that’s the most epic song that we’ve got,” Tomlinson said. “To listen to it from top to bottom, it’s a real song to be proud of.”

Regardless, some One Direction fans had hoped for a more upbeat choice of single, like “What A Feeling,” “Wolves” or “Temporary Fix.” But don’t worry, Directioners — more MITAM singles are likely on the way. And if it’s any consolation, we’re bound to get a gorgeous music video for “Infinity,” as well as tons of goosebumps-worthy live performances of the song, like this BBC Live Lounge one.
