N.W.A's 'Straight Outta Compton' Video Got The ‘GTA’ Treatment: Watch

AnimalRobot tells us why he reimagined the N.W.A classic.

We got reintroduced to The World’s Most Dangerous Group this weekend with the release of “Straight Outta Compton,” the lucrative N.W.A biopic.

And as younger fans are getting to to know Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren and DJ Yella, AnimalRobot decided to drop a remake of the crew’s “Straight Outta Compton” music video. Only for his clip, the vid is set in the world of Grand Theft Auto.

MTV News reached out to Benjamin Roberts, also known as AnimalRobot, to talk about what inspired his latest creation. Roberts - who you may recall as the one behind many of those "Sesame Street" rap mash-ups - told us it was fueled by an improvement in how video games are designed.

"I think we're at the beginning of video games becoming very sophisticated tools for filmmaking," he explained in a statement to MTV News Monday (Aug. 17).

But he also added that N.W.A just made sense here.

"I thought that a 'Straight Outta Compton' and 'GTA' mashup would be an interesting way to explore this, with all the attention around the movie, and because the narrative of N.W.A and "Straight Outta Compton" is such a great fit for the world of 'GTA,'" he said.

AnimalRobot's appreciation for N.W.A also shines in his latest YouTube clip, which shows you what Dr. Dre looked like nearly every year from 1988 through 2015.

Roberts is right. More and more people are using videogames in this field. Just last month, YouTuber Merfish created his own version of the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" opening credits using "GTA" as inspiration. And the month before that, we also got the "Full House" "GTA" treatment.

What's the next "GTA" mash-up you'd like to see?
