Nick Jonas Commends Zayn Malik For Leaving One Direction

‘You have to stay true to yourself,' Nick said.

If anyone knows what it's like to be Zayn Malik right now, it's Nick Jonas.

Earlier this week, Zayn decided to leave One Direction because he wasn't "happy" and it didn't feel "real to him anymore," something that Nick commends him for doing.

"It's always tough and there is never an easy time to make a decision like that ," Nick told E! News. "I commend him for doing what he feels is right for him and you have to stay true to yourself."

And that's exactly what Nick, Kevin and Joe Jonas did back in 2013. The trio decided to disband the Jonas Brothers after eight years together due to a "big disagreement" between the brothers. The decision to split was unanimous, but Nick did say that he was the one to initiate the conversation.

Live At Much With The Jonas Brothers

Much like Directioners, the JoBro fans were completely heartbroken over their breakup, so Nick understands what all those fans are feeling right now.

"And I feel for the One Direction fans and hope they are all doing OK," he said. "It's one of those things where it's just time to close the chapter."

Zayn broke his silence about why he decided to leave the group after five years in an interview with The Sun saying that he feels "in control" now, but is upset because he feels like he let his fans down.

“I did try to do something that I wasn’t happy doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people’s happiness—and that was mainly the fans,” he explained. “And I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them. And, basically, I’m only upset I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way. That’s the main thing that I don’t want to happen. It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not real to me.”
