In further proof that One Direction fans are the best on the planet (exhibits A and B here and here), hundreds of dedicated Directioners have raised over $16,000 for charity to celebrate Harry Styles’ birthday.
The fundraiser has already passed its goal of $15,000, and the donations keep pouring in from Directioners around the world.
The London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard is a volunteer organization that aims to “provide an information, support and referral service for lesbians, gay men, bisexual and trans people and anyone who needs to consider issues around their sexuality.” Harry has publicly supported the organization in the past, delivering this sweet message for its 40th anniversary.
Harry has also been an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community in general. In July 2014 he tweeted his support after witnessing a Westboro Baptist Church protest.
And in August 2014, he made a huge statement of support by wearing gay NFL player Michael Sam’s jersey onstage.
This isn’t the first time Directioners have used the boys’ birthdays to show off their generosity. Earlier this month, fans raised over $11,000 for British Asian Trust in honor of Zayn Malik’s 22nd birthday, and in December they donated nearly $25,000 to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice for Louis Tomlinson’s 23rd birthday.
1D fans, you're the best!
