#RIPCaroline Trends Worldwide After One Direction Superfan Passes Away

Rest in peace, Caroline.

One of the most amazing, beautiful things about the One Direction fandom is how the fans have each other’s backs. Sure, there are the occasional snarky haters who weasel in and cause unnecessary drama, but for the most part, it’s an enthusiastic community of people who KNOW they’re beautiful... because their favorite boys told them so.

That was never more evident than when Directioners banded together to pay their respects to Caroline Richards, a 1D superfan who passed away after battling bone cancer.

The hashtag #RIPCaroline was soon trending worldwide on Twitter, as mournful fans sent out sweet thoughts, prayers, and pictures.

According to Houston news station KPRC, Caroline — who was born and raised in Houston, TX — was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in January 2014. She underwent three surgeries and numerous rounds of chemotherapy before passing away on Friday at age 12.

Caroline’s mom, Lauren Richards, shared a sweet picture on Instagram thanking her friends and followers for their thoughts. She also acknowledged social media stars Carter Reynolds, Cameron Dallas, and Hayes and Nash Grier, all of whom Caroline was also fans of.

Reynolds tweeted out his own sweet message for her, along with a picture of their recent meet-and-greet.

Rest in peace, Caroline.
