7 Things 'Back To The Future: Part II' Told Us 2015 Would Be Like

We were promised flying cars!

The sequel to the widely beloved "Back to the Future" movie came out in 1989, but it had a lot to say about 2015.

I love this movie too much to spoil it for you, but here's the gist: Time-traversin' dude Marty McFly and quirky scientist "Doc" Brown travel to the year 2015 to save Marty's son from peril and fix the time-space continuum, which sounds both awesome and totally exhausting.

Anyway, there are lots of things that the folks in the late eighties thought 2015 would be like. To the film's credit, it successfully predicted wireless video games and handheld tablets. There are some other inventions that exist in the film's version of 2015, but not quite in ours. Here's some of what "Back to the Future: Part II" told us 2015 would be like:

We're all supposed to have hoverboards

If 2014 was the year of #SURFBOARDT, can 2015 PLEASE be the year of hoverbort?

Flying cars are a thing

I know flying car technology is allegedly in the works, but when will we actually be able to drive these around?

We're all supposed to dress like this:

back to the future part II

Yeah. There's that.

We get to wear these dope shoes that lace themselves.

Good news! Nike is actually going to release these 'Power lace' sneakers in 2015.

All weather is "controlled."

In the movie, The "US Weather Service" plans out and controls all weather.

Dehydrated pizza - it's a thing!

It sounds totally disgusting yet completely necessary and oh my god SOMEONE MAKE IT REAL. Well, dehydrated foods do exist, but it's not mainstream (or I assume, delicious) like it is in the film. And to be fair, 3D-printed pizza is allegedly in the works.

We are all extremely dependent on...fax machines?

Don't even pretend like you know how to use a fax machine. They may have seemed really cool in the eighties, but they're almost obsolete now. After all, this IS 2015 - we have plenty of other technology to be overwhelmingly dependent on.

Here's a visual of the whole thing - what "Back to the Future: Part II" thought 2015 would look like:

Here's to a great year ahead! Hoverboard designers - I'm waiting.
