Frank Ocean’s 'Blonde' Is Now No. 1 On The Chart (And In Your Heart)

It’s officially one of the top albums of 2016 so far — and it’s in good company

He built his staircase, he took us all by surprise with a visual album and a devastatingly good full-length in the same weekend, and the numbers are in: Frank Ocean's Blonde debuted atop the Billboard 200 albums chart, and it's officially one of the strongest debuts of 2016 to date.

Blonde made its entrance on the Billboard 200 after moving 278,000 units, between album sales and streaming equivalent albums, or SEA, in its first week. That means Blonde had the third strongest debut for an album in 2016, following Beyoncé's Lemonade, which moved 653,000 units in its first week, and Drake's Views, which pushed 1.04 million units.

This is Ocean's first No. 1 album. Channel Orange, his 2012 debut, sold 131,000 copies in its first week and earned him the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200.

The four-year wait and feverish anticipation for Channel Orange's follow-up generated tons of interest in the album, as did Endless and Boys Don't Cry, the zine he distributed at pop-up shops following Endless's premiere.

Congrats, Frank. We're sorry we got really mad and sad about you taking your time to make such a brilliant piece of work.
