It’s a tough time to be Taylor Swift. Not only is the air still clearing from Kim Kardashian’s incriminating Snapchat receipts, but now Swift’s learned that the two times she’s met Britney Spears were but fleeting memories for the “Make Me” superstar.

On Sunday, Spears called in to Australia’s Kyle & Jackie O Show, where she took a (probably unintentional but still hilarious) page from the Mariah Carey Institute of Shade. Asked who she’d rather sit next to on a 24-hour flight, Taylor Swift or her sworn enemy Katy Perry, Spears attempted to answer diplomatically.

“I don’t know! I don’t know, that’s hard,” she replied. “They’re both so cool, I don’t know. I’ve briefly met Katy Perry at the Smurfs movie premiere. Maybe because I’ve met Katy Perry, I would say Taylor Swift, because I’ve never met her before.”

Oh, but Spears has met Swift before, most recently at the 2008 VMAs, where the Princess of Pop and the then-Princess of Country posed for photos in their coincidentally matching blonde curls.

Fans also dug up photographic evidence of an even earlier Spears-Swift sighting. This one was way, way back in 2003, the year the VMAs were dominated by Britney and Madonna’s (oh, and Christina’s) smooch seen ’round the world.

Granted, those two incidents were 8 and 13 years ago, respectively, so can you really blame Spears for not remembering? (Just leave Britney alone!)

And because I’m sure you’re curious (as was I), Spears’s story about meeting Perry does check out — they met at the Smurfs 2 premiere in 2013, which obviously left a huge impression on Spears. At least, enough for her to remember it now. As for Swift? Let’s just say Britney doesn’t know her.
