Ben Affleck Will Officially Star And Direct In A Standalone 'Batman' Movie

Batfleck is getting his own Batflick

The era of Batfleck is officially moving forward with Ben Affleck himself at the helm.

After donning the Dark Knight’s cape and cowl in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the actor/director will take on a larger role in the DC cinematic universe. During the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday, studio head Kevin Tsujihara announced that a standalone Batman film is in development with Affleck.

“[Batman v Superman] set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020," Tsuijhara said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman movie.”

A Warner Bros. spokesman later confirmed to IGN that Affleck will direct the solo Batman flick, giving the first official confirmation to longstanding rumors.

Following Tsuijhara’s announcement, Affleck took the stage with his Batman v Superman co-star Amy Adams to share an extended preview of this summer’s supervillain mashup Suicide Squad. Affleck is already set to reprise his role as Batman in both Suicide Squad and in Zack Snyder’s two-part The Justice League.
