Russell Brand Is Your Host For the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Get Him to the Gibson!

Russell Brand is set to bring his triple-threat skills as a comedian, actor and TV personality to his gig as official host of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. The "Arthur" star is set to give viewers an off-the-cuff and unique spin (to say the least) on the past year's biggest films and hottest stars.

"This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than 'The Avengers' and you won't have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out," said Brand in a press release. Whether we're meant to take the fact that someone will "Hulk out" at the show literally or figuratively remains to be seen — though with Brand as Master of Ceremonies, it could go either way.

Russell Brand is no stranger to MTV's penchant for giving away accolades, as he was the host of the MTV Video Music Awards in both 2008 and 2009. Brand certainly has his own kind of rock n' roll persona as well, especially after playing rock god Aldous Snow in both "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek" and voicing the rock-drummer son of the Easter Bunny in "Hop." He'll also be rocking out later this summer in "Rock of Ages," opening June 15.

With his new gig as host of the MTV Movie Awards, Brand joins the ranks of past hosts such as Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg, Ben Stiller, Jimmy Fallon, Mike Myers, Sarah Silverman and Justin Timberlake.

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards will be held at Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California and will air on Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Check out NextMovie's complete list of nominees, which includes "21 Jump Street," "The Hunger Games," "Bridesmaids," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Drive," and hold the Power of the Popcorn in your own hands by voting for your favorites through Saturday, June 2.
