2012 Movie Awards Summary
After an awesome hour of red carpet madness with our Style Correspondent Kat Graham (have you checked out our Full Fashion Recap yet?), the 2012 MTV Movie Awards kicked off with fun. giving a rocking rendition of their hit 'We Are Young.' Joined on stage by the ever-dapper Janelle MonŠe, the group jammed out in matching tuxedos and had the entire audience on their feet singing along.
Post-performance, host with the most Russell Brand took the stage and immediately brought the laughs. Claiming he needed someone "more unstable and reckless" to take the heat off if he botched his lines, Brand pushed all the attention to Charlie Sheen. The original party boy later introduced a montage of party scenes from cult classic movies to kick off Wiz Khalifa's performance of his new song, 'Work Hard, Play Hard.' The Pittsburgh MC raged with red cups and flying toilet paper, amping up the crowd with his house party performance.
Aerosmith legends Joe Perry and Steven Tyler took the stage to introduce a very special performance of 'Gold on the Ceiling' by The Black Keys featuring none other than Generation Award honoree Johnny Depp. The actor looked like a natural rock star next to Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney and graciously accepted his Golden Popcorn before hitting the strings again in a rendition of The Black Key's hit 'Lonely Boy.'
The festivities also provided a few Movie Awards firsts. For her sexed-up role in 'Horrible Bosses,' Jennifer Aniston secured a Golden Popcorn for the new Best On-Screen Dirtbag category, and wand-wielding wizard Harry Potter took home the title for Best Hero in the first ever social voting category. A teary-eyed Emma Stone landed the first-ever MTV Trailblazer Award and gave props to the comedians that came before her.
The odds were definitely in favor of 'The Hunger Games.' For their portrayals of District 12 tributes Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson took home Golden Popcorns for Best Female and Best Male. The pair also shared a 'W' for Best Fight with castmate Alexander Ludwig for their bloody battle at the end of the flick. Elizabeth Banks later had "the best moment of [her] life" while receiving the Best On-Screen Transformation award from Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum and a half naked Joe Manganiello.
Thanks to the help of Twihards, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson managed to seal the Best Kiss award for the fourth straight year. In the absence of her Edward, KStew was forced to take the stage solo... and make out with herself. At the end of the evening, the latest installment of the 'Twilight' saga brought the franchise it's fourth major win for Movie Of The Year.
