Nickelodeon Is Reviving 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' -- With One Huge Twist

Beware of Temple Guards.

Legends of the Hidden Temple is officially the latest '90s classic to get the reboot treatment, which means that the Temple Guards are back to fuel your nightmares. The beloved Nickelodeon game show is being revived as live-action TV movie on the network, reports Variety. (Full Disclosure: MTV and Nickelodeon are both owned by Viacom.)

In the scripted Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie, three siblings are tasked with competing obstacles to remain alive. Sounds like an average Temple Run to us! The action may be scripted, but the film will tap into the spirit of the show and what made it one of the greatest spectacles in '90s kids programming.

Hosted by Kirk Fogg back in the day, this fantasy-action game show tested its kid competitors's intelligence, physical prowess, and determination as they searched for legendary artifacts -- like the royal pendant of King Kamehameha or Blackbeard's treasure map -- in a well-protected Mayan temple.

Isabela Monae will star in the TV movie, alongside those nasty Temple Guards, our favorite talking head Olmec, and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes. Fans can expect the film later this year.

The Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie is part of a larger initiative to revive old TV and movie properties over at the network. Nickelodeon is currently mining for exciting new ideas by reaching out to the creators of iconic Nick shows. In November, Nickelodeon announced its plan to revive Hey Arnold! with a two-part TV movie slated for 2017.

Then, in January Nick announced that all of our favorite Nickelodeon characters will officially join forces on the big screen in one epic feature film. Think of it as Who Framed Roger Rabbit starring Tommy Pickles and Heffer Wolfe.

In other words, WE LOVE THIS NEW INITIATIVE.
