The 2016 Golden Globes was a beautiful mess of television tomfoolery, as teleprompters shut off for no reason and Mel Gibson and Ricky Gervais re-ignited their blood feud. But by far the most wonderful, memetic moment of the night was when Lady Gaga brushed against Leonardo DiCaprio on her way to receive her award for Best Actress in a TV Movie/Miniseries, and this happened:

Almost instantly the Internet took the ball and ran with it, and Leo's surprised reaction became the best new celebrity meme of 2016:

But he wants you to know that he wasn't offended by Gaga's presence or anything -- he just straight-up didn't didn't understand what was happening to him.

Last night (January 10), a reporter from Entertainment Tonight asked DiCaprio backstage about his take on what transpired, and was met with laughter from him and his "Revenant" director Alejandro González Iñárritu. “Oh lord -- that’s trending, huh?”

A far as why he reacted the way he did, the actor confessed, “I just didn’t know what was passing me -- that’s all!”

In the Golden Globe winner's defense, it does seem like Gaga bumped him with the incredibly sculpted hip of her Versace gown, and who knows what's stuffed in there to give her that hourglass shape. Maybe it was cotton balls? Maybe it was bees? Perhaps it was that bear, back for revenge? The world may never know.
