Seriously, ‘Star Wars,’ Just Cast Tatiana Maslany Already

Come on, just do it.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is coming to theaters in just a few months, so you know what that means -- it's time for sequel casting rumors already. Only two more years until the next episode comes out, after all!

According to The Wrap, there's a new female lead role in store for us when "Star Wars Episode VIII" begins filming. Director Rian Johnson's reportedly already got his shortlist lined up -- Olivia Cooke, "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez, and Tatiana Maslany from "Orphan Black."

This isn't the first time Lucasfilm has courted Tatiana to appear in a "Star Wars" movie, if you'll remember -- she was rumored to be the lead in "Rogue One" before Felicity Jones eventually got the job, and we totally went to bat for her back then. Since January, though, Tatiana's star has been totally on the rise, and she straight up deserves a role in the franchise at this point. Here's what's changed since she almost became Rogue Squadron's leader:

First of all, she's officially an Emmy nominated actress now.

Y'know, in addition to the other awards she's already won, like the Critics' Choice Television Award, the Gemini Award, and the Young Hollywood Awards.

Her nerd cred is only getting more and more legit.

BBC America

BBC America's "Orphan Black" is one of the leading science fiction shows on television right now -- its third season premiered not just on BBC America but on all five of the cable channels owned by the AMC Network, including AMC, IFC, SundanceTV and WE TV, and the series even got its own line of fashion clothing at Hot Topic recently. So we know she looks perfect on a T-shirt!

She also has some serious film cred now, too.

This year she plays the younger version of a Holocaust survivor (Helen Mirren) in "Woman In Gold." The Empire -- and the First Order, we're guessing -- is basically made up of the space equivalent of Nazis, so Tatiana should know how to handle herself against them now.

She's also shown her skill at voice acting, for possible non-human roles.

Maslany had a bit role in the Netflix series "Bojack Horseman" this past season, proving that even if she was playing a totally CGI character like Lupita is for "The Force Awakens," she could absolutely rock the heck out of it.

Her fanbase continues to engulf everything in its path.

We weren't the only ones excited when Tatiana was first rumored for "Rogue One" -- it seems like the entire Internet exploded with joy at the prospect, as they did when she was finally nominated for that Emmy after years of fan campaigning.

At this point, she's kind of like the female Mads Mikkelsen -- she's in no way a household name but she sure is a critical darling, and if you know who she is, then there's no way you're not obsessed wit her. And Mads was just cast in "Rogue One," sooooo she totally must be next, right?

In fact, "Star Wars" needs way more women anyway, so why not cast BOTH Gina Rodriguez and Tatiana Maslany together?

CW

Both of them had a very good year, after all -- Gina's performance in "Jane The Virgin" earned her a Golden Globe. Plus, could you imagine Jane Villanueva and Sarah Manning hanging out with Daisy Ridley and Felicity Jones in space? Total squad goals.
