While Lorde is hard at work on her sophomore album, it appears she may be taking inspiration from some of her contemporaries — at least, if her recent glowing reviews are any indication.

Just a couple weeks ago, she expertly dissected Drake’s pop prowess, admiring his song “Hotline Bling” for its “dynamic hook nouns.” And now, she’s turned her attention to another buzzing artist.

While Lorde’s bud Taylor Swift was governing over the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, Carly Rae Jepsen was on the other side of town, celebrating her new album, Emotion, with a sold-out concert at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.

There, Lorde shared a shot from the balcony, gushing over Carly Rae’s sophomore LP in the caption. “e•mo•tion is one of those annoying records where every song is good,” Lorde wrote. “kills me, but i hid my frustration for a night and just danced.”

She also gave a shout-out to producer/songwriter Ariel Rechtshaid, writing, “the release show was so much fun carly killed it - this was when bb ariel did his bass thing on 'all that' and i cheered mum-styles.”

Clearly, Lorde’s had Carly Rae on heavy rotation lately. Just last week, she shared another raving critique of the gloriously spirited and energetic Emotion track “Run Away With Me.”

We can only hope all this enthusiasm over other artists is inspiring Lorde’s own studio sessions!
