Taylor Swift, Skrillex, And More Make Adorable Video For Cara Delevingne's First Solo 'Vogue' Cover—Watch

It's about time!

It seems next to impossible that Cara Delevingne—supermodel, actress, celebrity friend to every other celebrity—is just now snagging her own American Vogue cover with the upcoming July issue.

She came close with last year’s September issue, where she was dubbed one of the “Instagirls” along with Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls, but this one’s different. Not only is Cara riding solo in the issue (aside from a few shots that feature her “Paper Towns” co-star, Nat Wolff), but her cover story stays true to its headline, “Candid Cara.”

Cara talks about everything from growing up with a heroin addict mother to her sexuality to how modeling has never been her end game, but rather acting and singing, saying, “The thrill of acting is making a character real. Modeling is the opposite of real. It’s being fake in front of the camera.”

She also discusses her own struggles with mental illness for the first time, telling the mag, “This is something I haven’t been open about, but it’s a huge part of who I am," she explains. "All of a sudden I was hit with a massive wave of depression and anxiety and self-hatred, where the feelings were so painful that I would slam my head against a tree to try to knock myself out. I never cut, but I’d scratch myself to the point of bleeding. I just wanted to dematerialize and have someone sweep me away.”

At one point, she explains that the depression and stress of her career almost led her to suicide.

“I was packing my bags, and suddenly I just wanted to end it. I had a way, and it was right there in front of me. And I was like, I need to decide whether I love myself as much as I love the idea of death,” she said. Then, she heard Outkast’s “SpottieOttieDopaliscious,” which had recently played at the funeral of a friend who died of a heroin overdose. “It felt like a warning from him. And it made me so furious with myself.”

And ending the speculation of are-they-or-aren’t-they, Cara talks about being in love with her girlfriend, singer Annie Clark otherwise known as St. Vincent.

“I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I’m feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle.”

Vogue also released a video featuring Cara’s myriad of celebrity friends congratulating her on the cover. There are the usual suspects of Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner, who calls her “pookie.” And then there are also some surprising faces like Rebel Wilson, who shouts “I love you, Cara!” before taking a swig of champagne and Kristen Wiig, who admits that she doesn’t know if it’s pronounced “car-uh or "care-uh" (it’s the former, if you’re also wondering).

While it’s been a long time coming, Cara’s first American Vogue cover definitely delivered. Head over to Vogue.com to read Cara's full cover story.
