Lil Wayne Is Giving A New Meaning To Independence Day

FWA on the way.

Lil Wayne wants to give you another reason to celebrate on the Fourth of July.

As Tunechi continues to battle with his label, Cash Money, in an ongoing lawsuit, his Tha Carter V album remains in limbo. But in February, he announced plans to drop a different project, Free Weezy Album, while fans waited for the latest in his Carter series.

As MissInfo.TV points out, during a concert on Tuesday night, Wayne finally let us know when we can expect to hear FWA: "I have a new album coming out, it's called FWA, it'll be out Fourth of July."

It feels safe to assume that, just like there's a meaning behind the title -- it's a free album, and it's also a call to free Weezy from his label chains -- the fact that he's dropping it on Independence Day, as he's trying to secure his independence as an artist, seems fitting.

Back in March, Wayne said that we could expect the release in April, but that never happened. This date feels like it could be a little more firm, though -- but we won't really know until we're able to hit "download" on the album.

And while Tha Carter V has been perpetually delayed, Tune has found other ways to gain momentum lately. Not only is he on his Release Partiez tour, but he's been dropping new tracks and verses, including "Glory," which was released on Jay Z's Tidal, and served as an indication of Wayne's partnership with the streaming service, as well.

In January, Weezy filed suit against his label, asking a judge to let him out of his contract and award him $51 million. In addition to allegedly being owed royalties, he claimed that he was never paid the $10 million he was promised for The Carter V.

The case is ongoing, but at least we have FWA to look forward to in the meantime.
