The Internet Has Its New Pick For 'Captain Marvel’ — And She's PERFECT

This would be the perfect actress to take flight in 2018.

Last night (June 1), the Internet was abuzz with the outrageous rumor that Marvel has already found its "Captain Marvel" team -- specifically, that Angelina Jolie was in final talks to direct the film, and Charlize Theron would play the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel herself.

It sounds way too good to be true, of course -- especially because ever since "Mad Max: Fury Road" raced into theaters a few weeks ago, Theron has more or less become Twitter's defacto pick for Danvers (a title previously held by "Battlestar Galactica" star Katee Sackhoff for years, I might add). And you don't need to know anything about comics to know what an amazing, perfect idea this is.

If Marvel wasn't already interested in Theron for the part, they need to be, and here's why:

She can clearly rock an action movie.

"Mad Max." Enough said. What's that? You want more said? She ALSO kicked ass in "Aeon Flux" and beat up a whole bunch of ninjas in Brandon Flowers' music video for "Crossfire." Basically, girl's got action chops for miles.

She also knows her way around a military setting.

Carol Danvers is a major in the United States Air Force, and while Theron's never actually played a military officer (except for an imperator -- that counts, right?), she's been in plenty of movies about the military from "Men of Honor" to "The Valley of Elah." Plus, her great-great-uncle was a famous captain in the South African army, so it pretty much runs in her blood.

She's a total feminist.

As Marvel's first female lead, Carol is going to be breaking a lot of barriers for women in the superhero franchise, and Theron would be the perfect spokesperson to champion her cause. After all, she did such an amazing job on the "Mad Max: Fury Road" press junket, and she recently made sure she got paid the same amount as co-star Chris Hemsworth for the "Snow White And The Huntsman" sequel after the Sony Hacks revealed huge gender-based pay gaps in Hollywood. Basically, she's the best.

She's older than the rest of the female Avengers, which is refreshing.

Okay, that sounds weird, but hear me out: the average age of the actors playing male Avengers (including the new team members like Aaron Taylor Johnson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, and Don Cheadle) is 40 years old. The average age of the female Avengers -- which as of now is JUST Scarlet Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen, remember -- is just 28.

At 39, Theron would be on the older side (though still younger than HALF the guys), and given how hard it is for actresses in their late thirties/early forties to even get roles as love interests, it would be so cool to see someone that age saving the world with superpowers.

She's literally already Captain Marvel, though.

Wait, which picture is of Charlize and which is of Carol? I literally can't tell the difference.

"Captain Marvel" is expected to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
