Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz Tells You How To Deal With Your No-Good Boyfriend

Licensed to advise.

To most of us, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz will always be the funny, full-of-life Beastie Boy whose raspy voice helped launch the trio into hip-hop stardom. But post-Beasties, he’s been making a name for himself as an actor (he stars in Noah Baumbach’s new film “While We’re Young” alongside Ben Stiller) and, now, as an expert advice-giver.

Adam recently took part in Rookie’s “Ask a Grown Man” series, giving advice to teenage girls and joining the ranks of famous dudes we had no idea were so profound. Past experts have included Run the Jewels, Seth Rogen, Thom Yorke, Vampire Weekend, and Paul Rudd.

In the clip, Adam appears slightly uncomfortable with his newfound role as a wise adult (“I have been asked to be a grown-up”). But he soon spews out sage advice on how to deal with first kiss jitters (“Go ahead and do it! Just a quick little kiss”), how to break up with someone you’re not into anymore (“Come up with an excuse. You can blame your parents — that’s a good out”), and what to do when your boyfriend isn’t being attentive (“I don’t mean to generalize, but I’m going to: Boys are, for the most part, not very observant”).

While all of his answers harped on the common theme of being honest in your relationships, it was Adam’s last answer that will definitely strike a chord with everyone. When asked how to deal with insecurity and gain confidence, he said, “Everybody feels that way. You’re not alone.” He then went on to advise focusing on something that fulfills you. “Think about the thing that makes you happiest and do that. Focus on the thing that you love to do.”

Now that’s some wisdom we can ALL use in our lives.
