Will You Wear The Apple Watch? That May Depend On Where You Live

Wearable technology is a way bigger deal in some places than others.

HBO Now isn't the only new thing that Apple is bringing us soon. Today its CEO Tim Cook gave more details on the Apple Watch -- starting at $349 for the aluminum version, $549 for steel and $10,000(!!) for gold -- which could be the product that finally makes wearable tech mainstream.

But will it catch on in your city? We may have the answer thanks to new research from eBay Deals, which just surveyed 1,000 men ages 18-34 to determine the shopping preferences of the modern male to see how, exactly, they are treating themselves. And it turns out, guys are spending the most money on wearable tech and gadgets in the western half of the country:

"The millennial males in this region have made wearable tech go viral, thanks to Silicon Valley," an eBay spokesperson tells MTV News.

The average young guy nationwide spends $483/year on tech, followed by home improvements ($419/year) and clothing. Here's all the stuff dudes are putting the most dollars toward:

Other regional findings: Guys in the South spend the most on electronics such as TVs and video games; Northeastern males spend the most on clothes (or as we like to call them, non-tech wearables), while Midwestern men spend the least. But the Midwest coughs up the most money on concert tickets.

Perhaps the least surprising (yet still jarring) number is that average annual spending on music is just a few shades above app spending, at $41. That's a measly three CDs, or roughly one month of music consumption for any cool mallrat in 1999 terms.

Meanwhile, guys on the West Coast spend the least on cable subscriptions -- we're guessing because the nice weather lets them enjoy outdoor activities, where they can track their vitals using all those wearables. But don't worry! Television viewership is still dominant among young males, despite all the other distractions they're spending money on. In fact, according to the eBay survey, TV viewing still outpaces gaming.

So in the future, our grandchildren may not know what "buying music" is, but they'll still know what "vegging out on the couch to HBO" is, even if they're watching it on their wrists. Check out the full survey results below:
