'Teen Mom 2' Sneak Peek: Barbara Admits She Never Wanted Custody Of Jace

When Jenelle begins planning for the five-year-old's future, her mother gets emotional.

Barbara assumed legal control of Jenelle's son several years ago, but in the sneak peek below, she makes a surprising confession: She never wanted to.

"I did not [want] to take custody of Jace," the little boy's grandmother tells her daughter. "It was your decision -- not mine.”

Jenelle had become angry with her mother and expressed her desire to regain custody of Jace on last week’s "Teen Mom 2" episode. And after Barbara makes her admission, the young mother gets extra-defensive.

"I was forced to sign custody over," she argues, before admitting the event sent her into a downward spiral. "[Then] I did drugs because I didn't have my son back. Because I was giving up."

Barbara's response: "I wouldn't have taken Jace away if I thought he was safe."

Jenelle's beau Nathan, meanwhile, becomes sullen when Barbara says she's concerned about his drinking. In response, he criticizes how Barbara has raised Jace, saying the boy was "dropping the f-bomb at three or four years old."

After Barbara says that the child didn't learn such language from her, Nathan waves a white flag and says that he doesn't want to fight anymore. Barbara agrees, and the trio begin a heartfelt dialogue.

With their differences put aside, Barbara decides that they don't need to go to court to begin the transition period, which she says would ideally take place over a year while Jenelle and Nathan find the five-year-old a school and settle into a new home.

Regardless, Barbara has a difficult time envisioning life without her grandson every day. "We're gonna work on this as a plan, cause I'll miss him terribly," she says tearfully. "But he's not my child. He's my grandson."

Watch the entire emotional exchange, and be sure to watch the "Teen Mom 2" season finale on Wednesday at 10/9c.
