T.I.'s Wife Tiny Explains Her New Focus On Music Amid Marriage Rumors

'I’m not just his wife. I’m a singer. I have been for a long time.'

Tameka “Tiny” Harris and T.I. live their love life in the spotlight. The family opens its doors to TV audiences through VH1’s “T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle” and their romance is constantly at the center of tabloids, particularly of late due to rumors regarding boxer Floyd Mayweather.

Everyone else is constantly speculating about the couple's relationship, but what does Tiny herself think of everything? Recently, Vibe asked her exactly that, and Tiny opened up about her marriage, her singing career and why she understands fans who were surprised by “What the F— You Gon Do?”

"I get it, especially with young people who might not know Xscape or who know T.I. and his music and see me as just his wife,” Tiny explains. "But I’m not just his wife. I’m a singer. I have been for a long time. And it’s a very big part of who I am. I missed being in the studio at first. But with the OMG Girlz, I got a chance to write and produce, and that was how I stayed connected to music.”

But even those who knew about Tiny’s background in music weren’t exactly sure what her “What the F— You Gon Do?” cut was about. Some even wondered if the song indicated tension between Tiny and T.I.. But Tiny says the song has been an important one for her during tough times.

"My new song is a statement,” Tiny says. "Some people might say, ‘Why put your business in a song?' It’s because this is my life and my truth and this is how I choose to express it. Isn’t that what we do as entertainers? We go through stuff and we write about it. I wrote this song a year ago. I never planned to put it out. It was therapy for me. At the time, I was really going through a lot. Stuff that the public didn’t know and still doesn’t know. And over the past year, as things have unfolded publicly, people expected me to speak on it. And then I realized, I did speak on all of this, a year ago, in this song. So it made sense to release it.”

Fans shouldn’t think Tiny isn’t talking to T.I. about all of this. “Please believe, I’m doing that too,” she says. “This song is not all there is to this relationship.”

Earlier this week, T.I. released “Stay," a song that also appears to delve into the couple’s marriage. "Man after everything we will never be the same / Man I’m tired of tellin’ lies, know you sick of playin’ games,” T.I. raps on the track.

Tiny, who says she loves “Stay,” also makes sure to note that she and T.I. didn’t plan on releasing the tracks at the same time. In fact, Tiny says she didn’t know that “Stay” had released until someone else let her know it was out. And despite the focus on music, the superstar pair are constantly working on their relationship—just like a regular couple.

"Will our music affect our real-life relationship? I really don’t know," she says. "I mean if it does, I hope it’s in a good way. Hopefully, it works out in our favor in the end. All I know is that I’m working on it. We’re working on it."
