Here's Why You Should Be Obsessed With Katy Perry's Tourmate, Ferras

Besides that awesome hair.

RALEIGH, North Carolina -- L.A.-based, Jordanian singer-songwriter Ferras (a.k.a. Ferras Alqaisi) has been kicking around the music scene for as long as Katy Perry, but he had his official cocoon emergence Sunday night when he opened for Perry on the first date of her Prismatic World Tour.

The openly gay singer is the first signee from Perry's new label Metamorphosis Music, with Capitol Records, and he heralded that news with a self-titled EP and a wave-your-phone-light-it's-so-beautiful performance onstage in Raleigh, North Carolina, last night. Perry has been full-on gushing about the singer since the news of his signing broke.

“Ferras is a man with a message, and a unique lyrical way of communicating his perspective on life that makes you feel connected to every note when you listen,” she said in a statement. “‘Speak in Tongues’ is a song with raw emotional power that I wish I wrote. I believe he is going to be an important artist to watch unfold. I am SO ecstatic the world gets to hear his music now both online and on tour with me.”

And the only photo she Instagrammed last night? That would be of Ferras:

Well, after seeing the musician double-fist the synths last night, we can see what all of Katy's excitement is about. Dude is like a mixture of Twin Shadow, Miguel and Prince -- with a dash of futuristic warrior from space.

Needless to say, we are now huge Ferras fans and will be keeping a close watch on his every move.
