Ed Sheeran's Gift To Taylor Swift Was Just As Cute As Her Needlepoint

Ed 'dishes' on gift-swapping with Tay and what her next album will sound like.

I'm pretty much convinced there's nothing Taylor Swift can't do. She can sing, act and cook up a mean batch of cupcakes. She's also a BFF to many, and as we learned this week, she's also a great gift giver!

During Ed Sheeran's MTV documentary, "Nine Days and Nights," Ed showed off a Christmas gift from Taylor, a crafty needlepoint work featuring Drake's famous line “started from the bottom.”

So what did Ed give Taylor in return? Well ... a plate.

But it wasn't just any plate he gave Taylor (who also gifted Ed a camera) -- it was a very special plate.

"I got a plate, it was a silver plate with all the [Red] Tour dates engraved into it, which took a while to do," Ed said during "Live From MTV Presents The Ed Sheeran After Show." "I tried to hurry the dude up. ... I didn’t want to say who it was for. I think he just thought I was a super fan getting Taylor Swift tour dates. I was like, 'Dude, come on, Christmas is coming.'"

Ed joined Taylor for six months as her opening act on the Red Tour in 2013, and it was there that he wrote a lot of the songs off his upcoming album, Multiply. But unfortunately for the Sheerios, none of that writing was done with Taylor.

"Taylor was in the position where she released Red and she just wants to tour and she will think about the next album when she’s done," Ed explained. "But I definitely played her songs [I wrote], but there was never a point where we were like, 'Let's write a tune,' because she's like, 'I’ve just done an album.' "

So that also means we won't have a repeat of their duet, "Everything Has Changed," to look forward to on Taylor's upcoming album. In fact, Taylor, who recently called her upcoming fifth album her "favorite," is working on this project solo.

"I don’t think she’s teamed up with anyone; I think she did it all on her own. It's really good," Ed said before adding that fans should not expect another Red album. "She has to evolve. If she makes another Red everyone will be like, 'It sounds like Red.' But she's evolved and I think it's a positive step."
