The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards will be a night of many firsts.
It's the first time One Direction takes the stage at the show. It's the first time VMA vets Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys will be performing brand-new tracks for music fans everywhere. And Demi Lovato will make her VMA debut performing "Give Your Heart a Break" during the pre-show.
Even the double-decker red carpet is a first of its kind. "Jersey Shore" star Vinny Guadagnino was lucky enough to see the carpet for himself ahead of the pre-show, which goes live from L.A.'s Staples Center at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
"It's amazing. It's humongous," he said, taking in the obstacle course that is the VMA red carpet. Considering the magnitude of the carpet, when we gave the star his tour, there was so much to cover that we had to do it in fast-forward speed. Once he reached the finish line, Vinny was barely able to breathe.
Given how tired Vinny was by the end of his walk-through, it'll be interesting to see how all the celebrities make their way around the carpet before they take their seats inside the big show.
While many of the night's A-listers will be celebrating firsts, the "Jersey Shore" stars will be looking ahead to their last season right before the VMA red carpet kicks off. Ahead of the show's final season premiere in October, the stars of the hit MTV series will reflect on all the show's highlights during the "Jersey Shore" special "Gym, Tan, Look Back" at 6 p.m.
Right after the special, the cast of the show will be on hand at the pre-show to open up about the show's forthcoming season and reflect on castmate Snooki's baby Lorenzo, who was born last month in New Jersey.
