This may be One Direction's first trip to the MTV Video Music Awards, but they're planning some big things for their Staples Center performance.
Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson took some time to chat with MTV News about what they have up their collective sleeve for their VMAs debut tomorrow. It turns out they have their sights set pretty high and plan to give a performance that ranks up with some of the Video Music Awards greats.
"I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion. Like, we're really looking forward to it, and I think it ranks up there with one of the best performances we'll do so far," Payne said.
He continued, "It's quite nerve-racking because obviously there have been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs. We want to make a moment ourselves, but who knows." The boys of One Direction have been looking forward to the VMAs for a while now. During their MTV special "One Direction: My First Time," the five boy-banders sounded off on some of their personal favorite performances given by artists like Eminem, Green Day and Kanye West. "I'm really excited to add our name to the history books when we perform at this year's VMAs," Horan said.
The VMAs may not be airing until Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, but One Direction are already making a big impact at this year's awards show. The Brits are nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Video, and the Directioners have also been busy battling it out with the Beliebers to win their favorite band the Most Share-Worthy Video Moonman.
At press time, One Direction were in the lead by close to one million votes, but that could change drastically the closer we get to the VMAs pre-show. The winner will be announced toward the end of the pre-show (which starts at 7 p.m., if you didn't already know), so keep voting up until you hear the results air live!
