Watch Megan & Liz Sample VMA Best Female Video Nominees!

YouTube twins compile medley of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Selena Gomez covers.

What better way to honor the five artists up for Best Female Video at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards than by putting together an acoustic rendition of their nominated songs?

That's the approach that twins Megan & Liz took when we asked them to honor the ladies up for the Moonman this year. They put together a short medley of the five songs up for the Best Female Video award: Rihanna's "We Found Love," Katy Perry's "Part of Me," Beyoncé's "Love on Top," Nicki Minaj's "Starships" and Selena Gomez & The Scene's "Love You Like a Love Song." The singing sisters rose to fame on YouTube thanks to their blend of covers and original songs, so it only makes sense that they pick up their guitars and strum along to the five singles to promote the award.

The only thing that would have made this video better was if Megan & Liz had dressed up in outfits similar to the ones used in the music videos they were covering. Maybe that's what the girls should have been looking for when we look them back-to-school shopping recently. Hopefully they'll wear the looks they did pick up on the VMAs red carpet, which airs on the pre-show at 7 p.m. Thursday.

After watching Megan & Liz's video, we almost wish that the four artists up for the award had put together their own acoustic versions of the songs. But Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Selena Gomez all have enough work cut out for them just to try to bring the coveted Moonman statue home. Gomez is facing off against four women who have dominated the VMAs in years past. But "Love You Like a Love Song" is a solid entry, and this could be her year to take the Best Female Video award home. We'll have to wait until the VMAs air Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT to find out.

Though Thursday night will be all about the music, make sure you tune in for the "Jersey Shore" special "Gym, Tan, Look Back" at 6 p.m. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and Snooki, J-Woww or The Situation will burst into song during the one-hour show. We can only dream.
