Ray Charles Signs With Indie Label

Soul legend, who made his name recording for Atlantic Records, inked multi-album deal with New York's InVision Records.

R&B legend Ray Charles, who made his name recording for Atlantic Records, will be releasing future albums on an independent label.

Charles inked a multirecord deal with InVision Records, a new independent label based in New York.

Charles combined gospel, blues and jazz into his own sound on hits such as "What'd I Say" (1959) (RealAudio excerpt)and "Hit the Road Jack" (1961). He also had a country-music hit with "I Can't Stop Loving You" from his 1962 album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music.

He was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, and performed at President Bill Clinton's inaugural celebration in 1993. His most recent album of all-new material was 1996's Strong Love Affair.

InVision Records is a division of Falcon Entertainment, which will launch a new music video network featuring both amateur and professional musicians in May.
