Guilty Pleasures

This four-girl act has it all: The perfectly blending voices. The catchy tunes impossible to shake from your memory. A dizzying pink album cover that shows the fresh-faced foursome looking almost unnaturally happy. And that storehouse of drumbeats and sound effects that all teen-oriented music seems to draw from.

Also like their peers, particularly 'N Sync and Britney Spears, they offer something to enjoy, even if it's not high art. The 13-track selection doesn't get to its best stuff until track seven, "Ooh La La" (RealAudio excerpt). Then it picks up steam with "Absolutely Maybe" and hits a high point with "Sugardaddy" (RealAudio excerpt), which has bopping beats and harmonized vocals reminiscent of the Jackson 5. They end the album with their Spice Girls-like take on the Sister Sledge classic "We Are Family," injecting it with a rap about friendship and changing the chorus to "I got all my angels with me."

File Nobody's Angel under guilty pleasures.
