MDFMK Prepare For Sonic Assault Of U.S.
MDFMK, the new industrial rock project from KMFDM founder Sascha Konietzko, will support their recent debut album with an 18-city North American tour that kicks off May 31 in Pomona, Calif.
The band, which also includes former Drill singer Lucia Cifarelli and guitarist Tim Skold, said in February that it will play live on the tour, using a limited amount of pre-programmed music.
"We're just really good with power tools," Skold said of the band's electro-rock sound. "It's really tricky to dissect stuff and try to explain things that are based on personal experience. It's art."
MDFMK, released on March 28, is loaded with guitar layers and sonic destruction, much like a KMFDM record. But the band takes an unlikely turn on "Get Out of My Head," (RealAudio excerpt), which opens with a tenor choir and finds Cifarelli seducing listeners with her slithering words.
"There's definitely a bunch of aspects to KMFDM," Konietzko said of the record. "There were a lot of things we wanted to continue."
MDFMK's live show will include some surprises, Skold said, along with the angst that was a signature of KMFDM.
"[It sounds angry], but seriously, we need to be happy people because we do what we like to do," Konietzko added. "We have another great opportunity to explore the vast wasteland of the music experience. We have the opportunity to tour."
