Perry Farrell To Spin At 6th Element

Mixmaster Morris, Hybrid also added to huge outdoor dance event.

Former Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros frontman Perry Farrell will DJ at 6th Element: The Dawning: Chapter 7, a festival in New York this summer.

Farrell has been spinning dance music at private parties in recent years and plans to release an electronic-music CD later this year.

Farrell, who penned such rock hits as "Jane Says" and "Been Caught Stealing" (RealAudio excerpt), also co-founded the annual traveling modern-rock festival Lollapalooza, which has been unofficially defunct since 1997.

"The festival is really trying to define DJ culture as the next era of music and bring it up to arena status," 6th Element spokesperson Kate Bernstein said. "As one of the icons of alternative music, Perry Farrell's crossover into DJing is a perfect example."

Veteran UK downtempo DJ Mixmaster Morris also has been added to the 6th Element lineup, along with British electronic act Hybrid, who recently remixed Filter's "Take a Picture."

Previously confirmed acts include Rabbit in the Moon, Afrika Bambaataa Dave Ralph, Sandra Collins, Aphrodite, Kool DJ Herc and Kevin Yost.

The all-day dance-music celebration will be held June 10 at the 15,000-capacity Randall's Island, between Manhattan and Queens, and will feature five stages of national and international talent.

Organizers are calling the festival, which also will include lifestyle and technology exhibits, the largest outdoor experience for dance and technology in New York.
