John Prine Announces Tour Dates

Singer/songwriter plans Nashville benefit to kick off brief outing.

John Prine, whose inspired 1999 album of duets, In Spite of Ourselves, received album-of-the-year honors in both the New Yorker and Irish Times, has announced tour dates.

The CD features the raspy-voiced singer/songwriter trading vocals with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood, Ireland's Dolores Keane and Prine's wife, Fiona, as well as fellow folkie Iris DeMent on four songs, including "We're Not the Jet Set" (originally a hit for George Jones and Tammy Wynette) and the spouse-swapping "Let's Invite Them Over."

DeMent will support Prine on three of the dates: April 1 in Memphis, Tenn., May 4 in Los Angeles and May 5 in San Diego. The initial show in Prine's tour, March 30, in Nashville, will be a benefit for the Hume Fogg Academic High School.
