Stereo MC's Break Seven-Year Silence

British dance act releases hip-hop mix CD.

The first record in seven years by Stereo MC's, one of the most successful British dance acts, was released Monday (March 27) in the UK.

The mix CD Stereo MC's: DJ Kicks is part of Studio K7's critically acclaimed DJ Kicks compilation series, which has included albums by Kruder & Dorfmeister, Carl Craig, Kid Loco and Thievery Corporation.

The hip-hop-heavy LP features a new Stereo MC's track, along with songs by Kool G Rap and DJ Polo, Ultramagnetic MC's, the Herbaliser and Red Snapper.

Rapper Rob B. (born Rob Birch) and DJ The Head (born Nick Hallam) formed the group in 1985 and released their first album, 33-45-78, in 1987.

Stereo MC's stumbled upon international stardom in 1993 with the release of Connected and the single of the same name (RealAudio excerpt). The album sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States, and the band opened for U2 on the Zooropa tour.
