Fiona Apple Apologizes For Storming Offstage

Singer walked out on Roseland Ballroom audience due to sound problems.

A remorseful Fiona Apple, in a hand-written note posted on fansite Never Is a Promise (www.neverisapromise.com), apologized for walking offstage 40 minutes into her March 2 show at the Roseland Ballroom in New York. Saying that she couldn't hear herself onstage, Apple wrote that she "couldn't continue with a show that was shaping up to be one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life." The note, which Apple's publicist confirmed she wrote, continues, "I am so f---ing sorry that I don't have whatever it takes to be 'professional' in a situation like that. I feel like I let everyone down and made a fool of myself in front of everyone I respect. But I don't know what else I could've done." At the show, Apple played eight songs, including her new single "Limp," off When the Pawn ... (1999), before telling the crowd she was taking "a five-minute break" and never returning.
