Violent Femmes To Take Freak Magnet On Road

College-rock faves to head overseas after a few East Coast dates.

Quirky pop-rockers the Violent Femmes will hit the road in late February.

The Wisconsin band recently released a live CD, Viva Wisconsin, and has a new studio album, Freak Magnet, due Feb. 22. The Femmes kick off the tour the following night in Providence, R.I., and they play two more shows in the United States — in Boston and New York — before hopping overseas to tour Ireland, England and other stops in Europe. Their outing is scheduled to end in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 7.

Freak Magnet, the Femmes' seventh studio album, features the single "Sleepwalkin' " (RealAudio excerpt), which is

scheduled to hit radio later this month. The CD, which includes 15 original tracks, was produced by the band and Warren Bruleigh. Other songs on the LP include "Hollywood Is High," "Mosh Pit," "Forbidden," "All I Want" and "When You Die."

The Violent Femmes rang in the New Year at the Falls Festival in Australia on Friday night, performing "Auld Lang Syne" as the clock struck midnight before moving into their signature tune, "Blister in the Sun" (RealAudio excerpt).
