Country singer/songwriter Emmylou Harris was given the Century

Award by Billboard magazine, honoring her for distinguished creative

achievement. The award was announced in the music-industry trade magazine's

Dec. 4 issue. Previous recipients have included former Beatles

member George Harrison; singer/songwriters Billy Joel,

Joni Mitchell and James Taylor; and rocker Carlos Santana.

The award acknowledges "the uncommon excellence of one artist's still-unfolding

body of work," according to the magazine.
