Gang Starr, Jazzmatazz Albums Planned

Rapper Guru aiming for LPs from hip-hop duo and jazz side project.

Hip-hop duo Gang Starr will return to the studio to record their follow-up to 1998's The Moment of Truth, after they complete their tour with Rage Against the Machine in December, the group's rapper, Guru, said Wednesday (Nov. 17). Guru said he and in-demand partner DJ Premier haven't decided on concepts or songs for the album but will "continue with hardcore Gang Starr sh--." The group, he said, is aiming for a June release. Meanwhile, Guru said he also plans to record a third album, as Jazzmatazz, his reflective jazz side project, next year once the Gang Starr album is done. Jazz veteran Herbie Hancock, soul singer D'Angelo and others will guest on that record. The Neptunes, DJ Scratch, Premier and Roots drummer ?uestlove will produce tracks. Among the artists on Jazzmatazz Vol. II: A New Reality, were singers Chaka Khan and Meshell Ndegeocello and saxophonists Branford Marsalis and Kenny Garrett.
