The Donnas, the ScAvengers, the Mr. T Experience, the Groovie Ghoulies

and others will perform this weekend at Lookout! Freakout! — a

four-day showcase of the storied indie label Lookout!'s punk roster.

A Labor Day afternoon shindig at a Castro Valley, Calif., miniature-golf

course will follow three nights of club shows in San Francisco.

"[Lookout! Records] started out as more of a document of the punk-rock

scene and went on to influence and form it," Mr. T Experience singer Dr.

Frank (who declined to give his full name) said. "It's a punk-rock

institution."

A bastion of Berkeley, Calif., punkdom since 1988, Lookout! Records was

home to '80s California ska pioneers Operation Ivy and to albums by

Rancid and Green Day.

The retail outlet of the label — which shares distribution with

fellow independents Kill Rock Stars and Alternative Tentacles — has

become something of a punk Mecca, according to label spokesperson Tristin

Laughter.

"A lot of kids from all over the world who love punk rock come to Berkeley

to see [performing space 924 Gilman] and the Lookout! record shop," she

said. "It's kind of a meet-and-greet place."

Friday night's show will feature the all-female punk-pop band the Donnas,

who are making waves with their cover of Kiss' "Strutter"

Saturday night's show will be a CD-release party for the Mr. T Experience's

Alcatraz. The Mopes will make their West Coast debut the same

night with tunes from their new album, Accident Waiting to Happen.

The ScAvengers, who will perform Sunday, are Penelope Houston and Greg

Ingram from the seminal punk band the Avengers, with the Mr. T Experience's

Joel Reader on bass and Danny Panic (Screeching Weasel, Groovie Ghoulies,

the Mopes, the Plus Ones) on drums.
