Assault Charge Against Luther Campbell Dropped
Prosecutors in Miami dropped an assault charge Monday (Aug. 16) against 2 Live Crew founder Luther Campbell after deciding they did not have enough evidence against him, according to Don Ungurait, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade County office of the state's attorney. Ungurait said multiple witnesses contradicted a club-goer's assertion that Campbell, 38, hit him in the head with a whiskey bottle while hanging out at Club Zen in Miami on July 5. One employee of the club testified the club did not sell whiskey by the bottle that night, Ungurait said. The bawdy Campbell is working on a solo album due early next year, according to Julian Booth, A&R director for Luke Records. He still faces a misdemeanor assault charge related to a domestic dispute in Miami in May, Ungurait said.
