Metallica Make Walk Of Fame

Some 300 fans crowded around to cheer as Metallica were honored with a

bronze plaque on San Francisco's Bammies Walk of Fame Wednesday (April 7),

joining such rock luminaries as the late Jerry Garcia of the

Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. Drummer Lars Ulrich, singer/guitarist

James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Jason

Newsted sat as a pre-recorded tribute traced the metal band's occasionally

turbulent history. San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown sent an emissary to proclaim April 7

Metallica Day. "If this is Metallica Day from now on, then can I get all my parking tickets

erased?" Hammett quipped.
