Perry Farrell's ENIT Fest Loses Some Dates
Perry Farrell has grand ambitions for his ENIT fest, but
the nitty-gritty reality of putting on an all-night event is setting in. ENIT
representatives said yesterday that two of the six tour dates have been
canceled. Tomorrow's (Wed., Aug. 14) show at the Meadow near Cleveland is now
history, as is a show that was to have taken place on August 23rd at the
Calaveras County Fairgrounds (a couple of hours from San Francisco). The tour
will now begin on Saturday (Aug. 17) at the Garden State Art Center in Holmdel,
New Jersey. Bands performing include Porno For Pyros, Love and Rockets, and
Meat Beat Manifesto. Tour publicist Perry Serpa told the L. A. Times
that "mounting production costs due to local ordinances" led to the
cancellation of the Meadow show, while booking agent Adam Schneider told the
San Francisco Chronicle that the Calaveras show was canceled because it
would have been impossible to move the show to the next site--the Snow Valley
ski resort in the San Bernardino Mountains--in just 12 hours. "It has
absolutely nothing to do with ticket sales," said Schneider. "The honest truth
is that it's been such an unprecedented task to stage a touring all-night
festival that moves between sites that the scheduling and logistics have become
so great that it's taken us by surprise." But couldn't they just enlist the
help of some of the aliens expected to attend. Nevermind.
