Mitchell Lashes Out At Rock Fans
Legendary rock-songstress Joni Mitchell lashed out at two concert-goers seated
in the orchestra section of Indianapolis' Market Square Arena during her show there
Monday with folk-rock icon Bob Dylan. Disturbed by the two mimicking and
mocking her, Mitchell is said to have shouted: "You a--holes ... yes, you! ...You're ruining
my performance. ...You're ruining it for everybody. ... You rude little f---s! ... You're getting
drunk, and if you're waiting on Bobby, then why don't you leave?" The crowd cheered its
support of Mitchell strongly, according to brothers Bob and Tom Hanna, members of the
Joni Mitchell Internet Discussion List, who also were seated in the orchestra section, and
who added that Mitchell explained further to the audience, "They're mimicking the way I
move. ... It's inhibiting. ... We're human up here. ... It's not a movie." Mitchell and her band
then broke into a ferocious rendition of her song "Sex Kills." Mitchell's publicist could not
be reached for comment. Chad Bosworth of Indianapolis-based Sunshine Promotions,
which set up the concert, said no actions were taken by arena officials to quiet the
offending two, since the situation quickly got under control once Mitchell addressed
them.
