Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs & B-Real To Hit The Road
Ace producer and studio hound DJ Muggs will be hitting the road with Cypress Hill for this year's Smokin' Grooves tour in June, rapper B-Real told ATN. "Muggs is gonna be on the whole tour," Real said.
Last summer, the DJ
and producer sat out the Smokin' Grooves shows, preferring to work at home
in the studio. "I think he missed the whole thing. He was the only one out of the whole
crew, producing things by himself. I think he got a little lonely. I
think he wanted to be with the boys again on the road, and that's not bad."
Does this mean he's returning to the road for good? "Well, for this one, I believe so," Real said of his collaborator.
Real said the pair will be using their down time to craft songs for Cypress' fourth album. "Probably on the bus, we'll be coming up with the concepts and things of that nature," Real said. "Eventually we'll record some of those concepts somewhere between, on our days off.
"Once we get to working, it's an easy flow for us," Real added. "Me
and Muggs got good chemistry like that. If he's got something good, I vibe
right away off of it, and I'm ready to go. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes
for me to get a song together, depending on what kind of vibe he's giving
me, if I can deal with it."
The album is currently slated for an October release--just three months
after Real's solo project, The Psycho Realm, and seven after the Muggs' hip-hop all-star
assembly Muggs Presents...The Soul Assassins.
Real said that he and Muggs have, thus far, recorded four songs for the
upcoming Cypress Hill album. "Right now they're just in the getting 'em
together stages," the rapper said. "We're trying not to rush anything,
but you have deadlines that you have to submit to sometimes."
Meanwhile, the Psycho Realm will drop their self-titled
debut next month, and will join Cypress Hill on stage for an extended
Smokin' Grooves set.
Also joining Muggs and Real on stage will be percussionist and frequent live
contributor, Eric Bobo. The Smokin' Grooves tour kicks off June 30 in
Mansfield, Mass.
On stage, Real will be mixing it up with Cypress Hill and Psycho
Realm. Listeners anticipating a simple side project from the Psychos are
liable to be surprised by the verbal strengths of Real's cohorts, Mr. Duke
and Jacken. The 15-track Psycho Realm lands in stores next month,
so Real says it was only natural that both groups would tour together.
"I try to use everything to my advantage," he said. "The single [Psycho
Realm's "Psycho City Blocks"] comes out the second day of the tour. Now
there's gonna be a lot of attention on Cypress right now because we're
doing the Smokin' Grooves tour, and the record company's gonna want us to
do a promotional tour for Psycho Realm. So, while we have all this
attention, what better time to take Psycho Realm on the road with Cypress?
"I'm using it as a tool to help out the new group," Real said. "And also to just have
some fun for the summer for Chris' sakes."
