George Michael Working On New Tunes

Pop singer George Michael is working on three new songs for his upcoming greatest-hits album, the 35-year-old former Wham! frontman told fans Thursday in an online chat session organized through the Microsoft Network and his label, Aegean Records. "I should be finished within the next couple of weeks, and they are rather bloody good," wrote Michael, who later added that he will launch a tour in March 1999. Peppering his responses with sideways smiley-faces and busting on himself for misspellings, the singer's sense of humor shone through in the two-hour-long cybersession, such as when he joked that his follow-up to 1996's Older will be called Fatter with a Little More Grey Hair. Michael, who publicly announced his homosexuality recently after he was arrested in a Beverly Hills, Calif., park restroom and charged with engaging in a lewd act, also addressed questions about his sexuality. Explaining why he didn't come out prior to that incident, he wrote, "I have been an openly gay man with everyone in my life for a long time and that was good enough for me. As for my fans, I think I tried to tell them everything I could through my work as opposed to using the media, but in all honesty I think I blew that particular strategy in a big way."
