Bettie Serveert Go Underground
Holland-based pop band Bettie Serveert will release in mid-August an album of
Velvet Underground covers entitled Bettie Serveert Plays Venus in Furs and
Other Velvet Underground Songs. The live album was recorded in November 1997
and features covers of such classic VU songs as: "Beginning to See the Light,"
"Stephanie Says," "What Goes On," "Venus in Furs," "Sunday Morning," "Black Angel's
Death Song," "I Can't Stand It," "European Son," "Rock and Roll" and "After Hours."
Meanwhile, the band announced the parting of ways with drummer Berend
Dubbe, who left the group earlier this month in order to pursue "other projects,"
according to a spokesperson for the band's U.S. label, Matador Records.
