Chart Watch: City Of Angels Soundtrack Unseats Master P

While soundtracks rule the top 20, classic rockers Morrison, Starr and Wilson make lukewarm debuts.

Rap mogul Master P had the #1 slot on this week's Billboard

200 albums chart snatched from him by, of all challengers, the City Of Angels soundtrack.

The multi-artist soundtrack album -- which features the new Alanis Morissette tune, "Uninvited" (RealAudio excerpt), as well as previously released work by Irish rock superstars U2 and guitar giant Jimi Hendrix -- climbed to the top spot from the #2 position last week.

Also climbing a notch, to #2, was soul songstress Brandy with Never

S-A-Y Never. In turn, No Limits Records president Master P was pushed back to #3 with Da Last Don.

The upper ranks of the charts were once again jammed with soundtracks.

Not only did City Of Angels score big, but Hope Floats (#4)

and Godzilla (#5) traded places from last week, while the hip-hop

soundtrack for Bullworth moved up a slot to #12.

In addition, the Hav Plenty soundtrack, featuring R&B crooners Babyface, Des'ree and Erykah Badu, landed the highest debut of the week at #39.

Further down on the list, classic rockers Ringo Starr (Vertical

Man), Van Morrison (The Philosopher's Stone) and Brian Wilson

(Imagination) made their debuts at #61, #87 and #88,

respectively.

Elsewhere, the Smashing Pumpkins clung to the upper echelon with Adore

hitting #10 (down from #8 last week), and the pop sensations the Spice Girls continued to reap the rewards of the publicity surrounding Ginger Spice's exit. Their latest album, Spiceworld, jumped 11 spots to #40, while their first

collection, Spice, moved up 12 to #60.

Completing the top 10 are: Garth Brooks (#6); Backstreet Boys (#7); Shania

Twain (#8); and Will Smith (#9).
