Lorde Comes Out Of Hiding To Cover Robyn’s ‘Hang With Me’

See her emotionally charged rendition featuring Jack Antonoff

Last we heard from the reclusive Lorde, she was close to finishing up her long-awaited sophomore album, which she’s described as being heavily inspired by Robyn. Last night (December 12), she briefly resurfaced at the third annual Ally Coalition Talent Show in New York, where she performed — what else? — a Robyn cover.

The 20-year-old showed up unannounced and teamed up with Jack Antonoff (who’s producing her new album) for an emotionally charged cover of Robyn’s “Hang With Me.” It’s a stripped-down version, but Lorde still managed to show off some of her trademark wild hand gestures while perched at the piano. Good to see she hasn’t changed much.

The event — spearheaded by Jack and his sister, Rachel Antonoff — raised $100,000 for homeless LGBTQ youth. It also packed in performances from Jack’s band Bleachers, Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX, Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches, and more. To close out the show, all of the evening’s performers banded together for a rousing cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way” — check out a clip of it below.
