Dominic Toretto and his 1327 family have been through it all: the deaths of Han and Gisele, Letty’s amnesia, Jason Statham, cars falling out of airplanes, cars falling down cliffs, cars jumping through skyscrapers, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s fists. But in The Fate of the Furious, the official eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, they're facing their toughest challenge yet: Dom (Vin Diesel).
Dom has apparently turned his back on Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese), and the squad to work for Charlize Theron’s enigmatic villainess. There’s zero explanation as to why Dom “I Don’t Have Friends, I Got Family” Toretto would betray his family, but we’re with Letty on this one. Dom hasn’t gone to the dark side because he woke up one day and decided to be evil; Charlize is clearly blackmailing him. (Some cosmic force clearly does not want Dom and Letty to be happy.) That being said, not everyone is willing to give Dom the benefit of the doubt; Luke Hobbs (Johnson), for example, wants to straight-up murder him.
The trailer also features the kinds of action-packed stunts we’ve come to expect from the Fast franchise in recent installments. While there’s no driving up the Empire State Building (yet), there is a SUBMARINE. Oh, and some genius decided to give Luda a goddamn tank. Bless you, you perfect stranger.
Fate of the Furious hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
